The 2025 edition of the Eclipse Embedded and IoT developer survey is now underway! Take the survey now – it only takes a few minutes. Your insights and opinions will help shape the future of Embedded and IoT systems. Let's make a difference together!
Although our public archives only date back to 2019, the Eclipse Foundation has been conducting this survey in one form or another since 2015. To my knowledge, it is the only one of its kind managed by an open source community. Your participation in this survey is not just a contribution, but a vital part of the open source community's growth. Moreover, all of our survey reports are made available under the CC BY 4.0 license, meaning that you can freely share and adapt them simply by giving appropriate credit. In other words, your participation in the survey benefits not just commercial interests, but the entire open source community.
As usual, the survey will gather precious data on embedded microcontroller architectures, communication protocols, and security measures, among other topics. Personally, I am curious to see if RISC-V and, specifically, the great CORE-V cores from our friends at the OpenHW Foundation will continue their growth.
We have also added a few brand new questions to celebrate this tenth edition. The emergence of the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and other similar legislation means that the embedded, edge, and IoT commercial ecosystems are about to change from a largely unregulated one to an increasingly regulated one. Accordingly, we dedicated one question to regulatory compliance. Also new this year is a question on security certifications, which can play a key role in assessing the trustworthiness of software components.
The survey will run until September 30, 2025. But why wait? Participate now!
Thank you for helping us better understand current market trends so that the open-source community, and you in particular, can make more informed decisions.
